New Neutrophil Count!
Hey Y'all! So, I went to the hematologist last Friday to determine what to do about my low neutrophil and white blood cell counts. Prior to the appointment I had bloodwork done and my neutrophil count was 0.67 when the normal range of neutrophils is at 5.0. This was troublesome as we were unsure what the cause of the WBC depletion was. However, the hematologist analyzed my bloodwork and came to the conclusion that immunotherapy was to blame. She explained that this was actually a good thing. A low neutrophil and white blood cell count meant that my immune system is working super hard and attacking everything. She explained that this likely means my immune system does not need the extra boost of immunotherapy, instead I may be able to rely on the target therapy drugs as my main source of treatment. Furthermore, at the end of the appointment she was going to place me on steroids until my counts returned to normal. However, we recently got news that I will no longer need steroids as my neutrophils have skyrocketed to 7.0. This is great news! This means that my white blood cells and neutrophils have returned to normal and I am no longer immunocompromised. PRAISE GOD! The next step is to see if my oncologist wants to try a different kind of immunotherapy to see if that makes a difference or if she wants to forgo the immunotherapy altogether for the moment and focus on the target therapy treatment. I will keep you guys updated on that decision. We ask for prayers of wisdom and guidance for my oncology team as they make this decision. In other news, I am doing really well right now! I feel great and have had high energy. I have been more active and feeling like myself again. This week I started my fall semester of my senior year of college with OKWU online. I am also going to Oklahoma next week to visit my boyfriend and some friends from college! Super blessed to have the opportunity to see everyone and feel better! GOD IS GOOD Y'ALL!
Specific Prayer Requests:
-That my oncology team makes a wise decision on the next steps of my treatment plan.
-That my WBC and Neutrophil counts remain stable.
-That the target therapy drugs will kill every cancer cell in my body.
-That the BRAF gene switches back to normal.
-That I have a safe trip to Oklahoma.
-That I have a smooth academic semester.
-That I continue to feel good and be in high spirits!
-That my family and I are surrounded by the peace of God during this time.
